CONNECTING TO FARESHARE USING SNAK FOR MACINTOSH

1. First, download the current version of the IRC program, Snak; it is available at:

Snak an IRC Client

2. After decompressing the program, connect to your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Then, double click on the Snak application you just downloaded.

3. Under the Windows menu, select "Connections", or simply press Members Only (the command key) + K.

4. A pop-up window will appear called "Network List." Select the "Networks" tab. Press the "Add" button. A new window appears called "New Network." Under "Title," type in "StarChat." You can then fill in your nickname, alternate nickname, user name and password.

5. Press "Add" in the next box down. Next to "Network" at the top of this window, press and hold the pop-up box. Select the last option on this list, called Other Network.

6. Press "New", then next to "Server," type "StarChat." Next to "Port," type "6667." Next to "Timeout," type "40 seconds." Press "OK" three times.

7. The only window open now should be "Network List," and "StarChat" should appear in it.

8. Type Members Only (the command key) + J. The "Join" window appears. Press "Add". Type "#Fareshare" (without the quotes) in the "Channel Name" box. Click on the box next to "Show in Channel" menu under the "Tools" menu. Click on OK.

9. FareShare will now appear in the "Join" window. Click on "cancel" to close this window.

10. To sign onto FareShare, you must first select the server called "StarChat" that we have already set up. To do this, go to the "File" menu, select "Open Connection," then "StarChat." Within a few seconds, you will be connected.

11. Now you must select the channel or chat room you want, in this case, FareShare. Under the "Tools" menu, select "Channel," then select #FareShare. You are now connected to the chat, and, if it is in progress, the names of the other attendees will appear on your "User List." If you do not see this list, type Members Only (the command key) + U to make this window and list appear.

12. Type away - and have fun!

SENDING RECIPES DURING A CHAT USING SNAK AND MASTERCOOK 4.0 (AND ABOVE)

1. After opening Snak and signing onto Fareshare (see instructions above) open MasterCook 4.0, or whatever version you currently have.

2. Open the cookbook containing the recipes you wish to send. You may open more than one cookbook if necessary.

3. Select a desired recipe from the list, then click on "Open". Go to the "Edit" menu and select "Copy Recipe". WARNING - the selection directly beside "Copy Recipe" is "Cut Recipe" - if you select this one, your recipe may be lost forever - BE CAREFUL ! ! !

4. After selecting "Copy Recipe," click on any open window in Snak to take you to that program.

5. When you are ready to send your recipe (and you have given the other chat members a little warning about doing so), press Members Only (Command Key) + V. This will paste or "load" your recipe into memory, and you will see it do so in a split screen in the same chat window you have been talking in.

6. After the entire recipe "loads", press the "Return" key to send it. The recipe will now be readable by all the chat members who are present.

7. To send more recipes, repeat from step #3 above.
