  1              quart  chopped cabbage -- (1 small)
  3               cups  chopped cauliflower -- (1 medium)
  2               cups  chopped onion
  2               cups  chopped green tomatoes
  2               cups  chopped green peppers -- (4 medium)
  1                cup  chopped sweet red and yellow bell peppers
  3        tablespoons  salt
                        LIQUID:
  2 1/2           cups  white vinegar
  1 1/2           cups  sugar -- or more to taste
  2          teaspoons  dry mustard
  1           teaspoon  turmeric
     1/2      teaspoon  ground ginger
  2          teaspoons  celery seed
  1           teaspoon  mustard seed

Combine all of the chopped ingredients, sprinkle with the 3 tablespoons of
salt, mix lightly, let stand 4-6 hours in a cool place. Drain well.

Combine the ingredients for the liquid, simmer for 10 minutes.

Add the vegetables to the hot liquid, simmer 20-25 minutes. Bring to a
boil.

Seal with hot, sterilized, jars and lids, leaving 1/4-inch headspace.

Note : you can use green or ripe tomatoes.

  2        tablespoons  butter or margarine
     1/2           cup  boiling water
  2               cups  sifted flour
  1           teaspoon  baking soda
  1           teaspoon  baking powder
     1/2      teaspoon  salt
     1/2           cup  orange juice
  2        tablespoons  grated orange rind
  1                cup  granulated sugar
  2          teaspoons  vanilla extract
  1                     egg -- lightly beaten
     1/2           cup  chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350F.
Grease and flour a 4- x 8-inch loaf pan.

In medium sized heat-proof bowl, melt butter or margarine in boiling water.

Sift flour, soda, baking powder and salt together.
Add orange juice, grated rind, sugar and vanilla to the butter mixture.
Add egg.
Sift flour mixture over the orange mixture.
Add nuts and stir until moist (batter will be lumpy).

Pour into prepared pan.
Bake for 1 hour.

Remove from pan and cool on wire rack.
Store in waxed paper.
