* Exported from MasterCook * Kjottkaker (meatcakes) from Norway Recipe By : Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Volume 4-11 Nov. 2001 Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 500 grams minced beef -- (1 pound) 3/4 tbsp salt 100 grams minced beef suet -- (1/4 pound) [I think that is too much but so says this recipe] 2 Tbsps cornflour -- (cornstarch) 400 milliliters cold water -- or cold milk [approx. 2 cups] -- (400-500 ml) pepper ground ginger 2 Tbsps wholemeal flour -- (whole wheat) 50 grams butter for frying -- (about 3 Tbsps) 1/2 liter boiling water -- (2 cups approx) 1 onion -- sliced Mix beef, salt, suet and cornflour; stir well, always in the same direction. Slowly pour in water or milk until you have easy to handle consistency. Season with pepper, nutmeg and ginger. Form small cakes (or, as I think, meatballs) and roll them in wholemeal flour. Fry in butter (or in a non-stick pan) until brown, add boiling water and boil about 10 min. Add sliced onion. To make a sauce brown together butter and flour and gradually add this liquid, along with onions. (Approximate measurement conversions from the metric by Hallie.)
